The engagement

The client's customers expect the same account, the same saved homes and the same experience on the website and on their phone. We built a web platform and native iOS and Android apps on one backend, with shared accounts, saved activity and push notifications sent directly to Apple and Google.

Before launch we load-tested it with 50 simultaneous users. The app's home screen took 29 seconds at the 95th percentile and 15% of requests failed. We found the slow database paths and rebuilt them: the home screen dropped to 0.8 seconds, and a repeat test ran 7,071 requests with zero failures.

On the website, the slowest search paths took 22 to 28 seconds. We rebuilt them with a two-phase query design, and a citywide search dropped from 22.8 seconds to 0.9. The apps are published on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
